Poem by Ricki Oltean
I'm not riding in taxis, streetcars, buses or trains. But maybe flying here to there over cracked ice split open by freighters. sluggish they move. And paint still stains my neck and wrists.
Fog rolling in and over the island to make for a white backdrop to dream up any horizon besides water and the distant speckles of the, “best place to live in Canada”. And the landscape I imagine is the one that is revealed when the fog lifts and the humm of the Cesna roars overhead. They are coming or going, bringing or taking and the island is lighter than before.
Profile of Artist Ricki Oltean I was drawn here like so many, captured and remain on this Island for moments like these. For the silence that is broken by my daughter’s laughter, for the peace that remains just beyond the forgiving shore, for the flavour he brings to this life and our table. Here, I started as artist and have grown to become mother, partner, baker, business woman and friend. |
