Pelee Island Bird Observatory

The bird banding station has been conducting research since 2003 at Fish Point and other areas around the Island. Visits to PIBO by individuals and groups are welcome by appointment. Go to the Pelee Island Heritage Centre or the Pelee Island Bird Observatory for more information regarding our education program for schools.

This area of the country is famous across North America for bird watching and as a student I used to dream about visiting here. My career brought me to the Pelee Island Bird Observatory a short time ago and I still have trouble believing that I get to live here and do a job that I love. My family on the island consists of staff and volunteers from across the world, coming together to understand more about the birds that use Pelee Island as a stopover on their astonishing bi-annual migratory journeys. But the island is more than just a stopover for birds. Not only does it provide critical habitat for wildlife, but it also sustains a diverse and inspiring community of people that live here.
